Samhain Publishing – Macon, GA

The Problems: Samhain Publishing came to Boomcycle with a problem: a funky, buggy custom soft-goods ecommerce website that had to be overhauled. Customers were experiencing delays and errors, and products were “falling out” of their shopping cart. This project involved a large SQL data migration from a custom MySQL database and an implementation of a brand new soft goods (ebooks) and hard goods (paperbacks and accessories) store, administrative back-end (including image uploading and AJAX-powered forms) and integration with the Authorize.net CIM payment gateway.

The Results: Boomcycle reduced our client’s hardware expenditures by 50% yet improved response times. The site is securely processing $90K-$100K in sales per month. Samhain was so thrilled with the revamped site that they tapped Boomcycle to develop the ebook publisher’s v3.0 site as well which went live in January 2011. The v3.0 website features a seamless WordPress and osCommerce integration into a compelling “big publisher” presence.

Concord Music Group – Beverly Hills, CA

The Problems: Concord Music Group is a growing record label experiencing the growing pains that many modern businesses experience: a collection of custom and off-the-shelf software, databases and web applications that were growing in usage but not in utility. Some of Concord’s web applications had grown slow and unusable, some had bugs and some initiatives had never been moved forward. Concord required developers familiar with the technologies used to build their legacy web applications and database applications. Previous developers had also left Concord in a lurch with regards to source code control, with programs and queries running in production that had no analog in Concord’s SCCS.

The Results: A Boomcycle PM and engineering team set to work on discovery (finding out “where all the software bodies are buried”), organizing and versioning the source code and fixing and modernizing Concord’s internal web applications and databases. The disparate tasks included AJAX code fixes, MS SQL query optimization and PHP code modifications. Concord’s web applications and databases are running bug-free and at peak efficiency. The source code for all production systems revamped by Boomcycle is now documented and available to staff.

All Access Music Group – Malibu, CA

The Problems: All Access is a long-time radio and recording industry publication that was in the process of a lengthy and somewhat painful transition from a LAMP-based beta website to a fully-functional and fast PHP/MySQL membership site for radio and record industry personnel. All Access’ Software Project Manager was an extremely capable programmer but found himself overwhelmed with a burgeoning to-do list and not enough development staff to assist.

The Results: Boomcycle software developers helped All Access with a challenging MySQL data migration and implemented sweeping changes to the All Access administrative system that included sophisticated system logging for change tracking and AJAX data look-up techniques to speed and simplify data entry and site administration.
