Do I need a Pleasanton business license if I work from home?

Yes. The City of Pleasanton requires a business license for anyone doing business in the city. That includes any business that uses a Pleasanton address in its advertising or on a state or federal license, even if the work happens somewhere else. Renewals are due by January 31, and the tax is figured on a full calendar year of gross receipts.

Yes, as a service-area business. Google says you should hide your address if customers don’t come to you, then list up to 20 service areas by city or ZIP code. You can’t use a radius, and Google says the whole area shouldn’t stretch much past about 2 hours of driving from where you’re based. Local SEO does the rest.

Can my business get sued over an inaccessible website in California?

Yes, and businesses with a physical location carry the most risk. California’s Civil Rights Department says courts have applied the Unruh Act’s accessibility rules to websites tied to businesses with physical locations, and the damages start at $4,000 per offense, plus attorney’s fees. It’s much cheaper to build a site right than to defend one.

Can tracking pixels on my website get my business sued?

They can. California’s wiretap law, Penal Code section 631, still lets private plaintiffs sue, with damages of $5,000 per violation. SB 690, signed September 30, 2026 and taking effect January 1, 2027, narrows a different kind of claim and leaves section 631 alone. The safe setup is one where tracking waits for a visitor’s consent. Your attorney should have the final word.
